Volunteer Arts & Crafts Assistant

Love me Love My Mind (CSVA)

Love Me Love My Mind is a small registered charity based in Epsom Surrey which aims to promote better understanding of mental health and to support the well-being of everyone in the community.

Role Purpose

To work alongside the Facilitator in creating a calm, inclusive atmosphere. You will focus on the practical setup and the "one-to-one" encouragement that helps visitors relax and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of being creative. You would also support children at the kids arts and craft sessions when needed.

Main Responsibilities

  • Practical Setup: Assist with laying out materials and ensuring the craft area is tidy and inviting.
  • Side-by-Side Support: Sit with visitors who may be nervous or unsure of where to start, providing gentle encouragement and technical help with the day’s activity.
  • Hospitality: Help keep the "creative juices" flowing by offering a friendly chat and ensuring participants know where to find refreshments.
  • Session Wrap-up: Help clear away supplies and clean equipment at the end of the session.
  • Idea Sharing: Contribute your own suggestions for future art projects to the Facilitator during brief team catch-ups.

What skills do I need?

Skills & Experience

  • Approachability: A warm, "can-do" attitude and a willingness to listen.
  • Practicality: Happy to help with the physical side of things—squeezing paint, washing brushes, or moving tables.
  • No "Art Skills" Required: You don’t need to be an expert artist; a simple interest in crafting and a desire to help others is enough.

What’s in it for you?

  • Hands-on Experience: Learn how creative sessions are managed in a community mental health setting.
  • Wellbeing: Enjoy the "flow" of an Art session while making a tangible difference to someone’s day.
