Peer Support Volunteer

Love me Love My Mind (CSVA)

Love Me Love My Mind is a small registered charity based in Epsom Surrey which aims to promote better understanding of mental health and to support the well-being of everyone in the community.

Role Purpose

To provide a relatable, empathetic presence within the weekly support group. By safely sharing your own experiences, you will help model recovery and reduce the isolation felt by other members, assisting the Facilitator in keeping the group a warm and welcoming space.

Main Responsibilities

  • Active Participation: Join the group discussions as a "peer," sharing your own insights and coping strategies to encourage others to do the same.
  • Practical Support: Assist the Facilitator with the "room flow"—welcoming newcomers at the door, helping with seating, and ensuring everyone feels included.
  • One-to-One Connection: Offer a brief "side-chat" or a quiet word to any member who may feel overwhelmed during the session and needs a moment of individual support.
  • Group Safety: Help uphold the agreed group rules regarding confidentiality and mutual respect.
  • Debriefing: Spend 10 minutes with the Facilitator after the session to discuss how it went and identify any members who might need extra follow-up from the charity’s team.

What skills do I need?

Skills & Experience

  • Lived Experience: Personal experience of managing mental health challenges is desirable. Or experience of supporting others in this area.
  • Empathy & Listening: A natural ability to connect with people and offer support without being judgmental.
  • Boundaries: Understanding the importance of maintaining a supportive "peer" relationship.
  • Reliability: Since members often build a bond with peer supporters, consistent attendance is vital.

What’s in it for you?

  • Personal Growth: The opportunity to turn your own challenges into a positive tool for helping others.
  • Mentorship: Gain experience in group facilitation by working closely with the Lead Facilitator.
