Macmillan Cancer Centre Complementary Therapist

Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support is launching a brand new cancer information and support centre in Ashford, Surrey. The Centre is an inclusive and welcoming environment that promotes wellbeing for people living with and beyond cancer. It also provides a supportive, non-clinical space for families, loved ones, carers and healthcare professionals involved in cancer care. 

We are looking for friendly complementary therapists who are willing to gift their skills and volunteer their time to the centre. Using your professional skills, you will be part of this exciting opportunity from the very beginning.

You will help to create a safe, welcoming space where people affected by cancer can find comfort, connection and trusted support. If you have good communication skills and are passionate about the work you do, we would love to hear from you. Complementary therapies are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms and to encourage relaxation. 

As a volunteer you will:

  • Give a warm welcome, build rapport and trust with each person you offer your professional services to 
  • Carry out assessments to tailor treatments to each person’s needs, making sure the process is clearly explained and informed consent is obtained 
  • Deliver your treatment options safely and hygienically, adhering to your governing body’s ethics and code of conduct and Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures 
  • Report any health and safety issues in accordance with Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s procedures and policies 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with Macmillan Cancer Support and Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust policies

What skills do I need?

We are looking for volunteers with the following:

  • A current registration with an accredited professional organisation and be actively working in your area of expertise 
  • Are sensitive and aware of the psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis
  • Have a minimum of one year’s therapist experience 
  • Preferably have experience working with people affected by cancer
