Family Support Volunteer (SH)

Home-Start Surrey Heath (SH)

Being a parent is hard for everyone, for some it can be overwhelming.

Sometimes a friendly face, a listening ear and a cuppa can make the world of difference.  We’re looking for compassionate parents and grandparents in Surrey Heath who can spare just 2–3 hours a week to support a local family who may be feeling isolated, overwhelmed or in need of encouragement.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’d love to help someone the way I was helped,” — this could be for you.

We are looking for Home-visiting Volunteers to provide practical help and emotional support for families in the local community.  Some of us have a fantastic support network of family and friends to help, some of us don't. With your knowledge and experience of parenting, you could be the vital support a family needs and make a difference to their lives. If you could give as little as 2-3 hours a week to support a parent and their children we look forward to hearing from you.  Some of our families may be dealing with a variety of difficulties including; post-natal depression, isolation, physical and mental health problems, bereavement, financial worries or relationship difficulties.

Your role will be to support them in the way that they want; this may include practical tasks such as getting out of the house, getting to appointments or helping to get organised. It could also involve offering advice and sharing experiences or supporting parents through emotional issues.
