Group Lead Volunteer

Ready to Lead a Group that Changes Lives?

Join us as a Group Lead Volunteer and help build a team that supports young people, inspires volunteers, and strengthens your community.

The Group Leadership Team (headed up by the Group Lead Volunteer) helps volunteers across all Sections work well together and feel motivated. They make sure the Group is respected and supported in their local community.

As Group Lead Volunteer, you’ll work closely with:

  • Leadership Team Members
  • Team Leaders of each Section Team Leaders of sub-teams (like Fundraising or Inclusion)

These volunteers are part of your wider Group Leadership Team — a collaborative team working across Sections to make Scouting happen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Support Volunteers
  • Bring Section Leaders and other team members together to share ideas and work as one team
  • Help volunteers feel valued, supported, and confident in their roles
  • Encourage a positive, solution-focused environment

Champion Youth Voice -

  • Make sure young people’s ideas and feedback shape decisions in the Group
  • Promote a culture where Scouts are youth-led and adult-supported

Promote Inclusion and Belonging -

  • Work with Section Teams to ensure everyone feels welcome and included
  • Help make changes where needed so activities and environments are inclusive and accessible
  • Strive for the Group’s volunteers and young people to reflect the diversity of the local community

Develop and Connect -

  • Support volunteers to learn from each other and share skills across Sections
  • Encourage continuous learning and development
  • Work with your team to help volunteers grow in confidence and ability

Build Community Links -

  • Make sure the Group is visible, respected, and supported within the local area
  • Build relationships with parents, community groups, and other supporters

What skills do I need?

You Don’t Need to Be a Scouting Expert

We’re looking for someone who’s:

  • A good communicator and team player
  • Open-minded, encouraging, and great at bringing people together
  • Passionate about supporting others and creating an inclusive environment
  • Able to see the big picture and stay focused on what matters most: young people

Training is provided, and you’ll be part of a friendly and supportive network of volunteers who will help you every step of the way.
