Gardener

We are seeking a practical and enthusiastic Gardener Volunteer to support the care and development of gardens, growing areas, and green spaces across Big Wood Estate. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of a working farm and estate.

No formal gardening experience is required — just a willingness to learn and get involved.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with planting, weeding, pruning, and general garden maintenance
• Support seasonal tasks such as sowing, harvesting, mulching, and tidying beds
• Help care for plants, trees, and growing areas
• Maintain paths, borders, and outdoor spaces
• Work safely and follow guidance from the estate team
• Support occasional community or school gardening activities

What skills do I need?

• Enjoyment of outdoor, hands-on work
• Interest in gardening, growing food, or land management
• Willingness to learn new skills
• Reliable and able to work as part of a team
• Reasonable level of physical fitness for outdoor tasks
• Gardening experience is helpful but not essential
