Garden volunteer, working with vulnerable volunteers

The Gatton Trust (VASE)

To assist in maintaining the garden spaces while encouraging, supporting, and working alongside other volunteers who may have additional needs, helping them to gain confidence, skills, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening.

Key Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Support: Work collaboratively alongside vulnerable participants, encouraging them to participate in tasks, sharing gardening tips, and boosting their confidence.
  • Gardening Tasks: Assist with our gardening team in maintenance of the park and gardens, including weeding, planting, pruning, sowing seeds, and clearing leaves.

What skills do I need?

Required Skills & Personal Qualities:

  • Empathy & Patience: A calm, patient approach with an understanding of the needs of vulnerable people in the community.
  • Gardening Interest: A basic knowledge or passion for gardening and a willingness to learn.
  • Reliability: Commitment to attending scheduled sessions to provide consistency for participants.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well as part of a team alongside staff and other volunteers.

Gardening sessions are from 9.30am - 1.00pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday Parkland maintenance is Tuesday and Wednesday 9.30am - 1.00pm
