Dorking Museum and Heritage Centre (CSVA)
Can you help us look after our buildings, ensuring that our gallery and approach are safe and presentable for visitors? The role involves making sure that the premises look neat and tidy and are well maintained, and ensuring that maintenance work is done and regular servicing and inspections are carried out. The role is less practical (doing the physical work) than arranging for contractor visits for maintenance, servicing and repairs and keeping a general good eye on the state of the buildings.
Some practical skills would be useful in this role to enable the candidate to do some minor repairs, but are not necessary since electrical and any other major work will be contracted to professionals, at the instruction of the volunteer facilities manager.
The role requires organisational skills, to keep track of when maintenance and repairs have been done, and the ability to get on with other volunteers and with workmen and contractors.
The ability to use email is necessary for communication.
For a person who has DIY or building maintenance skills, there is the possibility of undertaking practical work but it is not a requirement of the role.

This role is not a regular commitment, but ‘as and when’. The volunteer Facilities Manager would be expected to visit on a regular basis to oversee the premises and to then schedule works to fit in with their own committmentst.
