Energy Champion Volunteer Assistant

Energy Action Redhill & Reigate Ltd (VASE)

We are looking for Volunteer Assistants to help deliver HEAT home energy surveys in Winter 2025/26. This is a supporting role where you will accompany and support a Lead Energy Champion whilst they are carrying out home energy surveys.

Energy Action Redhill and Reigate is a not for profit community benefit society. Our aim is to help improve the energy efficiency of local homes. We do this mainly by providing free home energy surveys and distributing energy saving devices such as draught-proofing and insulation.

As an Energy Champion Volunteer Assistant your role will be to help the Lead Energy Champion carry out a survey. This could involve chatting with the householder to help them complete a standard survey and/or taking images of their home using our thermal camera. You will not be expected to provide any advice or produce any reports.

You would be welcome to undertake training alongside other Energy Champions on 18 October or 8 November 2025. However, this is not a requirement for the Volunteer Assistant role.

This role could be suitable for employee volunteering as a long term commitment is not required. We would ask that you commit to a minimum of 2 mornings/evenings.

What skills do I need?

You will be visiting a wide range of people in their own homes. Our main requirement is that you are able to talk to people and have a friendly, non-judgmental approach.

It is helpful if you have access to a car to travel to homes in Reigate and Banstead or Tandridge.  However this is not essential; we can pair you with a Lead Energy Champion who can provide transport.

As you may be dealing with vulnerable people in their own homes, you will need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate in order to carry out the role. The DBS check will be arranged by EARR and all results will be confidential and individually considered.

Most surveys take place on a weekday evening between 6pm and 9pm or a weekday morning between 9am and 11am. Ideally we would like volunteers to be available one evening/morning per week or per fortnight between November and the end of March. However, this can be a very flexible role with the minimum commitment two sessions. We will always confirm your availability before matching you for a survey.
