As a Dementia Support Volunteer, you’ll help create a warm and supportive environment for people living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment.
Age UK Surrey are looking for Dementia Support volunteers to support Outreach Support Workers at their Mytchett and Ash support groups.
Locations & Times:
Main Duties:
Morning - Assisting Dementia Outreach Worker to facilitate a Memory Lane session for people living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (sessions to help maintain memory and mental functioning), this could involve helping with a range of activities such as art, music and reminiscence. Making tea & coffee.
Afternoon – Assisting Dementia Outreach Worker to facilitate group activity attended by people living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment and their carers – activities could range from quizzes to bingo to arts and crafts. Making tea & coffee.
Skills & Personal Qualities:
Patience and empathy towards older people
Good communication skills
Compassionate, reliable, and adaptable
Organised and creative (desirable)
Experience with dementia or older people (desirable but not essential)
